Nursing Home Care vs. Nursing Home Alternatives
Years ago, a good amount of people who had suffered an accident and became paralyzed, suffered a heart stroke, had a fall and broke a hip, had no choice but to go to a nursing home or stay in a hospital for an extended amount of time. Today the scenario is changed and most people have an alternative - that of employing home health assistants to look after them at their own homes at their comfort levels.
Home health care is no doubt cheaper compared to the intensive care and research studies have disclosed that most of the patient's rate of recovery is more rapid at their homes than the nursing homes. For the most part, the home health aides' role would be contributing a service which a nurse does at a hospital - giving prescription medicine, checking pulse, change dressings, checking temperature and breathing and helping out with the braces or artificial limbs. These people move ahead in helping out in ways that a traditional nurse in a hospital might not do, like exercising with the patients, picking up around the house, running errands and cooking meals and when the parents are sick or disabled, these caregivers also look after their children.
